I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived. --
Henry David Thoreau

You have found Eb Eberlein's Grand Canyon site. Eb has been hiking Grand Canyon since 1971 and professionally guiding since 1995. He now a free lance guide for a number of companies and will help you pick the right venue for your Grand Canyon trip.

Eb's Grand Canyon itineraries have been honed by decades of Grand Canyon experience. Weather on on the established trails, or off the trails into the most remote and seldom visited corners of Grand Canyon, using routes that are shared only by the deer, bighorn sheep, and mountain lions, from the Bright Angel Trail to the Lancelot Point Route into Modred Abyss, no one knows Grand Canyon better.

Eb fell in love with Grand Canyon on a Rim to Rim hike in August 1971. After receiving his Bachelor of Science in Forestry and Resource Management from SUNY, Syracuse, NY in 1975, Eb moved to Flagstaff, AZ. and fought forest fires in nearly every western state as well as performing timber inventories in Arizona and New Mexico with the Forest Service. Living in Flagstaff, Arizona from 1976-1986, he had become captured by the canyon.  Eb was quick to explore and feel at home in the inner canyon spending much of each winter below the rim. Moving to Tucson, he became a teacher in 1988. Eb left teaching in 1995 to found Sky Island Treks, and pursue full time Professional Wilderness Guiding. In 2006 Sky Island Treks merged with Discovery Treks. As a free lance guide he revels in sharing the Grand Canyon with travelers of every sort from seniors to families to 7 Summit climbers. From the Bright Angel Trail to the Summit of Cheops Pyramid, Eb is truly at home in the Grand Canyon.

Eb has spent over 1300 days in the inner canyon on overnight treks and day hikes. He has trekked extensively in the Sierra Nevada, Cascades, Rocky and Appalachian Mountains as well as most of the obscure Arizona sky island and basin ranges. Eb has also trekked in the Pirin and Rila Mountains of Bulgaria. When not trekking the canyon he enjoys alpine summits including a climb of Aconcagua in 2001 with climbing partner Matt Nelson.

Hiking Grand Canyon is not a pastime or even a fascination for Eb, it is an obsession. Have your party guided for a day or a fortnight as fits your schedule and interests.
